BENGALURU, October 18, 2026: India and West Indies shared their five-match Twenty20 International series 2–2 after rain prevented a result in Saturday’s decider at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Key highlights

  • India and West Indies shared the five-match T20I series 2–2 after rain prevented a result in the decider in Bengaluru on October 17.
  • Rain had cut the match to nine overs a side; India were 118 for five in 7.4 overs when play stopped, the ICC reported.
  • Ishan Kishan made 30 off 10 balls and Naman Dhir 24 not out off six.
  • Shai Hope was Player of the Series with 261 runs in four innings at an average of 130.5.

The ICC’s report records India at 118 for five in 7.4 overs when play stopped. Earlier rain had reduced the match to nine overs per side.

India’s rapid innings

Ishan Kishan scored 30 from 10 balls. Mumbai Indians’ account lists Naman Dhir unbeaten on 24 from six deliveries, including three sixes, and captain Shreyas Iyer on 22 from 14 balls.

West Indies did not complete a chase. India’s fast scoring therefore did not become a match victory.

Our calculation: India scored 118 runs from 46 balls before the rain, a run rate of about 15.4 an over (118 ÷ 7.67 overs).

Hope takes the series award

The ICC named Shai Hope Player of the Series after 261 runs in four innings at an average of 130.5. Keemo Paul took eight wickets in three appearances. Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned to India’s international side after almost four years, but had no opportunity to bowl in the decider.

A draw, not an Indian defeat

The abandonment left the four completed games’ balance unchanged. A no-result is not the same as either team losing a completed contest.

The series underlined West Indies’ competitiveness while leaving the final on-field question unanswered. Assessing that performance does not require imagining a result from an innings that never took place.

The ICC says India next travel to New Zealand for an all-format tour beginning October 22, while West Indies are due to play two Tests in Bangladesh.
