West Indies defeated India by 24 runs in the fourth T20I at Hyderabad on October 14, turning a series India had led 2–1 into a winner-takes-all final match. Shai Hope’s unbeaten 102 from 50 balls anchored the visitors’ 247/3; India were dismissed for 223 in 19.3 overs.
The result and Hope’s Player of the Match award are confirmed by the BCCI match centre. The Cricket West Indies results archive also records the 24-run victory.
Hope gives West Indies a formidable target
India chose to bowl at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Hope completed his hundred by hitting the last two balls of the innings for six, according to the ICC match report. Sherfane Rutherford contributed 49 as their unbroken fourth-wicket partnership added 91.
The target was 248: a demanding required rate of 12.4 runs per over from the start. That calculation explains the pressure on the chase without assuming anything about the pitch or dressing-room plans.
A fast Indian start is not enough
Sanju Samson struck 56 from 23 deliveries and India reached 60 in four overs. Keemo Paul then removed Samson and Ishan Kishan in the fifth over, before Gudakesh Motie dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Naman Dhir off successive balls.
Paul finished with a five-wicket haul. India’s opening surge therefore did not translate into a sustained chase: wickets through the innings were as consequential as the initial scoring rate.
The series is level, not lost
| Match | Result |
|---|---|
| Lucknow, October 6 | India won by eight wickets |
| Ranchi, October 9 | West Indies won by six wickets |
| Indore, October 11 | India won by 14 runs |
| Hyderabad, October 14 | West Indies won by 24 runs |
The fifth T20I is scheduled for October 17 in Bengaluru. India lost Wednesday’s match, but neither team has won the series. The distinction matters when assessing a high-scoring tour in which both sides have already recovered from defeats.
