October 21: Mumbai will host the 14th India Chem exhibition and conference from October 22 to 24, bringing chemical manufacturers, investors and policymakers to the Bombay Exhibition Centre at NESCO. The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals announced the programme on Wednesday, with Union Minister J P Nadda scheduled to inaugurate it.
Key highlights
- India Chem 2026 is scheduled for October 22–24 at NESCO in Mumbai.
- The department and FICCI are organising the exhibition and conference.
- Japan is the partner country, according to the government announcement.
- Participation estimates and investment opportunities are plans, not completed deals.
What Mumbai is hosting
Akashvani News reported on Wednesday evening that the three-day event would focus on emerging technologies, investment opportunities and international partnerships. Minister of State Anupriya Patel is also expected at the inauguration.
The theme, “Advantage Bharat: An Emerging Global Chemicals Hub”, sets out the organisers’ industrial ambitions. It should be read as the event’s framing rather than an independent assessment that all of those ambitions have been achieved.

Participation figures: an important distinction
The department’s release anticipates participation from more than 100 countries, more than 200 exhibitors and over 8,000 business visitors. Those are organiser expectations before the event, not verified attendance figures.
Indian Chemical News, a specialist industry publication, separately reported the dates, venue and Japan partnership. Its account refers to more than 100 exhibitors, a lower threshold than the department’s more-than-200 estimate. These are not final counts; the event’s eventual exhibitor register and attendance statement will be more useful for assessing actual participation.
Why the programme matters for industry
Indian Chemical News reported that states with chemical hubs and investment regions would present their capabilities, naming Gujarat, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. It said the exhibition would span chemicals, petrochemicals, plant machinery, equipment and services.
The department’s announcement also highlights technology transfer, contract manufacturing, chemical parks, recycling and greener processes. These topics link the gathering to decisions about how factories are financed, operated and supplied. A conference discussion, however, is not the same as an approved factory or a funded construction project.
What to watch after the opening
The most useful follow-up will be specific announcements: which organisations sign agreements, what those agreements commit them to, and whether financing, land and implementation timelines are disclosed. Readers should distinguish an expression of interest from an investment that has reached construction or production.
For business visitors, the published event dates do not by themselves establish admission conditions or appointment availability. Check the organiser’s current registration and programme information before travelling to NESCO. This article is a preview of the announced programme, not a report that the opening ceremony has already taken place.
