October 22: The investigation into Lucknow cafe owner Shiva Sharma’s death has moved into a new phase after the arrest of social media influencer Shraddha Dubey, her sister Rashmi Dubey and driver Tanveer Ali, also known as Danish, in Nagpur. Reports of the subsequent court proceedings describe transit remand to bring the three to Uttar Pradesh. The arrests do not settle the disputed circumstances of Sharma’s death, and the accusations against them remain unproven.

What happened in Lucknow?
The Times of India reported that Sharma died after falling from the fourth floor of Awadh Green Apartments near Balu Adda on October 9. Its October 20 report said a murder FIR was registered the following day under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. We are attributing those details to the newspaper rather than claiming to have inspected the FIR ourselves.
The central question is how the fatal fall occurred and whether another person was criminally responsible. The fact that a death occurred at a location associated with an accused person does not, on its own, answer that question. The circumstances must be assessed through evidence and the judicial process.
What did the family allege, and what was Dubey’s response?
In its October 16 account, The Indian Express reported that Sharma’s family alleged murder. The complaint named Shraddha, Rashmi, Tanveer Ali and two unidentified people. The newspaper also reported that Sharma’s mother, Ranjana Sharma, disputed Dubey’s account of the death.
The same report described a video in which Dubey denied involvement and said Sharma had died by suicide. Police told the newspaper they were verifying the video. That account is included to present her denial fairly, not to certify suicide as the cause or manner of death. Neither the family’s allegation nor a statement in a social media video is a substitute for an established finding.
What changed with the Nagpur arrests?
The Times of India quoted Lucknow Police Commissioner Tarun Gauba confirming that the three accused had been arrested in Nagpur on October 20. The paper reported that police intended to bring them to Lucknow on transit remand before producing them before a court.
The Hitavada’s October 22 report described cooperation between Nagpur police, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and Lucknow police. It said investigators examined CCTV footage and followed leads to an apartment where the suspects were located. Those are attributed details of the police operation. They do not independently establish what happened at the Lucknow apartment on October 9.

What is the latest verified procedural position?
Nagpur Today’s October 22 account says the three were produced before a Nagpur magistrate on Wednesday, October 21, and that Uttar Pradesh police received 72 hours of transit remand. It reported a direction to produce the accused before the Lucknow magistrate by October 24. The Hitavada separately reported the 72-hour order.
The Statesman’s October 21 report described the planned road transfer from Nagpur to Lucknow and included an ANI report that transit remand had been granted and police had departed with the accused. A planned arrival or hearing is not the same as a verified completed proceeding. At the time of this article, we have not verified a later Lucknow remand order or a final judicial finding.
What should not be treated as established?
Readers should separate three issues: the recorded procedural steps, claims made by the complainant or investigators, and conclusions a court may eventually reach. Online descriptions often collapse those stages into a single accusation. This explainer does not label any accused person a murderer.
We have not independently reviewed the original FIR, a complete post-mortem report, the court’s signed remand order or the original video files. Consequently, we do not offer a reconstruction of the fall, a medical interpretation, a motive or a conclusion about intent. We also avoid repeating personal rumours or suggesting that an association visible on social media establishes involvement by another person.
What to watch next
The next reportable developments are a verified Lucknow court order, an attributable police statement explaining the investigation’s progress, a defence response and any formally filed prosecution material. Each could clarify the procedural position without necessarily resolving guilt. If those records conflict with earlier reports, the difference should be explained explicitly.
This account is a synthesis of published reporting, not an on-scene investigation or an interview with either side. The sources are dated so readers can distinguish the early search for the accused from the later arrests and transfer proceedings.
