The latest figures refer to deaths across the affected Ukrainian regions, not only Kyiv city. The Associated Press reported eight deaths inside Kyiv and three in the surrounding region, while Zelenskyy’s national update put the overall toll at 12. Dozens were injured. Rescue and recovery work was continuing, meaning verified figures could change.

What happened overnight
Ukraine’s air force said the assault began on Monday evening and included ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, anti-radar weapons and a large drone wave. About a third of the drones were described as jet-powered, making them faster and more difficult to intercept than conventional propeller-driven designs.
In Kyiv, a railway depot and other rail facilities were hit. State railway officials said six employees were among those killed at railway premises, while the presidential update later referred to seven deaths connected with the depot strike. In Boryspil, east of the capital, authorities evacuated around 50 residents after damage to a residential building.
Odesa and its surrounding region also reported damage to energy, port and export infrastructure. Thousands of households were left without electricity, according to Ukrainian officials. A border crossing with Romania was damaged, disrupting movement at a frontier with an EU and NATO member.
What is known about the Indian citizen
Zelenskyy publicly identified one of the dead as a citizen of India. At the time of publication, Ukrainian authorities and India’s Ministry of External Affairs had not publicly released the person’s name, hometown or circumstances. The Press of Asia is therefore not repeating names circulated through unofficial accounts.
The Embassy of India in Kyiv maintains an emergency contact for Indian nationals. Families seeking information should rely on the embassy and official government communication rather than social-media claims. Confirmation of identity normally requires notification of relatives and consular procedures.
Russia’s account of the strike
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces conducted a large-scale strike using long-range precision weapons and drones. It said the targets included facilities linked to missile and drone production, fuel supplies and military cargo.
Ukraine reported damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Independent verification of individual battlefield and targeting claims remains difficult during an active war. Why the sixth consecutive day matters
Repeated daily attacks place a different burden on air defences and civilian services than an isolated strike. The death of an Indian citizen gives the attack a direct consular dimension. It came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin that the conflict should end for humanity’s sake during their latest diplomatic contact. India continues to maintain relations with both Moscow and Kyiv while advocating dialogue.
For Indian nationals in Ukraine, the immediate practical questions concern embassy contact, local air-raid instructions and safe movement. The Indian government’s directory lists the Embassy of India in Kyiv and an emergency helpline. Travellers should verify current advisories before making plans.
What happens next
Authorities will continue identifying victims, restoring electricity and assessing damage to rail, port and border infrastructure. Updated casualty figures should be treated as provisional until rescue operations and hospital reporting are complete.
