PM Modi in Meerut: Flagging Off Namo Bharat Train; Delhi-Meerut RRTS Full Route Now Open

MEERUT — In a landmark moment for India’s infrastructure and urban mobility, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today flagged off the Namo Bharat train in Meerut, officially inaugurating the complete Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. This high-speed rail link is set to redefine commuting in the National Capital Region (NCR), bringing Meerut and Delhi closer than ever before.

A New Era of High-Speed Travel The Namo Bharat trains, designed for speeds up to 180 km/h, will now cover the distance between Delhi and Meerut in approximately 50 to 55 minutes. This is a significant reduction from the current two to three hours taken by road or conventional rail. The Prime Minister, while flagging off the service, described it as a “lifeline for the common man” and a testament to the vision of ‘Gati Shakti’.

Key Highlights of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS:

  • Seamless Connectivity: The 82.15 km corridor connects major hubs, reducing congestion on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
  • Passenger Comfort: The trains feature ergonomic seating, luggage racks, Wi-Fi, and a dedicated coach for women, ensuring a premium travel experience.
  • Economic Boost: Better connectivity is expected to spur economic growth in Meerut and surrounding areas, attracting businesses and creating new employment opportunities.
  • Sustainable Transport: As an electric-powered system, the RRTS will significantly reduce the carbon footprint compared to private vehicle travel.

PM Modi’s Vision for ‘Naya Bharat’ Addressing a massive gathering in Meerut, PM Modi emphasized that the Namo Bharat train is not just a mode of transport but a symbol of India’s technological prowess and commitment to world-class infrastructure. “Today, Meerut is not just a city of history; it is becoming a city of the future,” he remarked, highlighting the government’s focus on modernizing rail and road networks across the country.

The Road Ahead for RRTS The successful completion of the Delhi-Meerut route is the first phase of a broader plan to develop eight such high-speed corridors across the NCR, including routes to Alwar and Panipat. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has ensured that the stations are integrated with other modes of transport, like the Metro and bus terminals, for last-mile connectivity.

As the Namo Bharat trains start their regular operations from tomorrow, residents of Meerut and Delhi can look forward to a faster, safer, and more comfortable daily commute, marking the beginning of a transformative chapter in North India’s transport history.
