NEW DELHI, November 6: India won 114 medals at the Asian Para Games 2026, including 30 golds, its best-ever haul at the Games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said as he met the contingent in New Delhi on Thursday. India’s athletes also set five world records and nine Asian records, and swept the podium in four events.

Key highlights

  • Medals: 114 in total: 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze.
  • Records: five world records and nine Asian records.
  • Clean sweeps: Indians took all three podium places in four events.
  • Debutants: 36 of the 61 athletes competing at their first Asian Para Games won medals.
  • Women: 34 of the 56 women athletes won medals.
  • Final day: India won nine golds on the last day alone.

What the Prime Minister said

Modi called the rise “from 14 to 114 medals” the result of the athletes’ hard work. He named shooter Mona Agarwal, who set a world record, and an athlete named Haney who broke his own world record, and spoke of Rinku, who lifted a photograph of his mother after winning gold two months after her death. He said India was strong in archery, athletics, shooting, swimming, table tennis, badminton, judo and powerlifting, and urged the sports goods industry to make world-class equipment in India under the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme.

Our calculation

  • India’s medal count has risen more than eight times since 2010 (from 14 to 114).
  • Gold medals made up about 26% of India’s total (30 of 114).
  • Women won medals at a rate of about 61% (34 of 56), and debutants at about 59% (36 of 61).

What it means

The result caps a strong year for Indian sport after the Asian Games, and shows how para-sport has grown with better funding, coaching and recognition. The high success rate of first-time athletes suggests the talent pipeline is deepening, which matters with the 2028 Paralympics in Los Angeles in view.

What to watch

  • Selection and support plans for the 2028 Paralympics.
  • The rollout of the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme.
