BJP Wins West Bengal for the First Time, Mamata Loses Bhabanipur

Published on

In a historic political earthquake, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, forming the state’s government for the very first time. Trinamool Congress chief and incumbent Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee not only lost her party’s majority — she also lost her own Bhabanipur constituency to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari by a margin of over 15,000 votes.

Historic Verdict

BJP crossed the halfway mark and eventually went past 207 seats — its biggest-ever tally in Bengal. The TMC, which had ruled Bengal since 2011, was reduced to just 80 seats, its worst-ever performance in the state.

Key Seat Results

  • Bhabanipur: BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari defeats Mamata Banerjee by 15,000+ votes
