Evacuation Operations Underway
Indian nationals, including students enrolled in Iranian universities, have been relocated from Tehran following advisories issued by the Indian Embassy in Iran. The Embassy has been in constant contact with Indian citizens across Iran, providing helplines and emergency assistance. Iran’s airspace remains officially closed, complicating evacuation logistics significantly.
Government’s Response
The Ministry of External Affairs activated its emergency response cell and set up dedicated helplines for Indians stranded in Iran and across the Gulf region. Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar has been closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Indian missions across the Middle East.
Scale of Indian Presence in the Gulf
India has nearly 10 million nationals living and working across Gulf countries. While most are in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar, a smaller but significant number are in Iran for education, trade, and cultural ties. Three Indian seafarers aboard foreign vessels were reported killed and one injured amid the escalating Middle East conflict.
What Should Indians in Iran Do?
The Indian Embassy has urged all remaining Indian nationals in Iran to register with the Embassy, avoid all public gatherings, stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, and follow official advisories only. Indians requiring emergency assistance can contact the Embassy’s 24-hour helpline.
The Press of Asia continues to monitor the safety of Indian nationals across the conflict zone and will provide regular updates.
